Barney was born in 1878 in Wauseon, Ohio.   His claim to fame was in 1903 when Oldfied was the first to drive a mile track at 60 mph. Later, he drove his famous "Blitzen Benz" in 1910 at 131.25 mph in Dayton Beach, Florida.     Barney was an inaugural inductee into the Motorsports Hall of Fame.    Barney is considered the father of American racing and Wauseon is very proud of their ties to their native son.
