ALL Summer Recreation Programs Cancelled

For immediate Release:

On May 6th, I made the determination to cancel our summer recreation programs for 2020, as well as competitive sports programs for Biddle Park through June 30, 2020, due to the Governor’s stay at home order and the restrictions placed on the city under the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Since that time, the Governor has allowed non-contact sports, namely baseball and softball, but under some hefty restrictions. After consulting with the Mayor, our Parks and Recreation Personnel, other area Parks and Recreation Directors, and polling perspective coaches and a number of earlier registered players, I have decided to continue with my decision for the cancellation of organized sports and summer programs through June 30, 2020.
I do not believe that we would be able to provide a quality program for our youth, under the restrictions placed on the programs. We will continue to monitor the situation, in order to make a determination about the coming months. As of right now, Biddle Park will be available for use by outside organizations after July 1, 2020, as long as they can comply with the restrictions that are in place at the time of their event.
It is my hope that our Parks and Recreation program can still offer smaller, mini-events in July and August, while preparing to implement our Fall Sports programs.
